Time Magazine released the results of the Harris Poll Happiness Index for 2016. It reveals that American happiness is at an all-time low. According to the study, nearly two-thirds of people living in this country are not content with their lives. For sure each has their own reason or reasons for this being so. I began wondering if there might be a common link between those who find themselves in a “not content” lifestyle and if so, what it is. Upon reflection the answer became clear: FEAR. We live in a fear-based society and our social media, news reporting, and morning talk shows tend to feed that fire. Fear of failure, fear of success, fear of being ridiculed, fear of the unknown, fear to be different, fear to speak our truth, fear, fear, fear.
I heard a podcast the other day and the topic of fear came up. The host stated that FEAR is an acronym for False Evidence Appearing Real. That really struck a chord with me. How many times has fear stopped me in my tracks? We like to conjure up all kinds of reasons and made up excuses as to why we cannot make a decision to do something that will improve our lives and move us in the direction of a more contented life. Furthermore, we believe our false reasons and excuses and therefore we do nothing. The truth of the matter is that if nothing changes, nothing changes. We cannot expect to grow and find those sweet opportunities for bringing joy and abundance and balance in our lives if we keep our blinders on, unable to see because we are frozen with fear.
Life does not stand still, especially on an energetic level. Everything is vibrating and resonating with energy whether or not we can detect it. In addition, energy, or chi, is flowing all around us – it is the life force of the universe. Feng Shui seeks to work with chi to bring our environments into balance; to support us in our lives, our passions, and pursuits. To do this effectively, we must first, acknowledge the flow of energy all around us, and second, understand how to best channel it to create an environment that harmonizes with our personal desires.
Once we have a supportive environment, we will begin to feel more secure in our life. This allows us to become more open to new possibilities. Life is not linear (although we like to think it is) and even a small change opens not one but many doors of opportunity. Feng Shui is brilliantly simple in its core principles and it is something you can discover for yourself. Feng Shui blessings!
